1. Adapted from the life records of former North Korean prisoners

The Korean drama Snowdrop tells the story of Eun Young-ro (Jisoo), a student who finds a man covered in blood in his dormitory. The man is Lim Soo-ho (Jung Hae-in), a student with a big secret related to the upheaval of Korean politics at the time. However, despite the dangers that haunt Soo-ho, Young-ro still falls for him.

Interestingly, the story in this drama was inspired by a memoir or life record of a man who was a political prisoner of North Korea. After escaping, the man from North Korea then lives on the run in South Korea. Well, the life story of the North Korean man became the inspiration for the background story of Soo-ho as the main character.

2. Being the debut of 'Blackpink' Jisoo as the main character

For those of you who like K-POP, maybe you know Jisoo better as a member of the girl group Blackpink. Even so, Jisoo actually debuted as an actress when she appeared as a cameo in the drama The Producers, starring IU and Kim Soo-hyun. Not only that, but Jisoo also appeared through a small role in the drama Arthdal Chronicles involving Song Joong-ki.

However, regardless of the number of appearances in both dramas, Snowdrop will be Jisoo's first time being involved as the main character. Despite already having a popular status and having played in dramas, Jisoo reportedly still has to go through the audition process first in order to get the role. Jisoo's debut as the main character in this drama is worth waiting for.

3. Becomes controversial in South Korea because of the background shoot

Despite being one of the dramas that quite a lot of people have been waiting for, in fact Snowdrop had caused a controversy. In fact, the controversy arose while it was still in production, precisely when the synopsis spread all over social media. This is related to the background of Jung Hae-in's character, namely Im Soo-ho.

You see, based on the leaked synopsis, Soo-ho is a spy from North Korea who disguises himself as a pro-democracy activist to spark political upheaval in South Korea. This then becomes a problem because the time setting of the drama takes place in the 1980s which is quite important for South Korean history.

Well, the background of Soo-ho is controversial because according to the public it will not match the original history. Even so, JTBC as the TV station that broadcast the drama clarified that the background was only for satire and would not change the original meaning of its history.
